Hemodialysis

How does hemodialysis work?

Answer

Blood is taken from the vascular access through a thin line into the dialysis machine and passed through an artificial kidney filter called a “dialyzer”. In the filter, waste products and excess fluid pass into a special solution (dialysate); the cleaned blood then returns to the body.
